Pastrana to Pay Tribute to X Games at Indianapolis and Iowa

Concord, N.C. (July 22, 2013) – Roush Fenway Racing and Travis Pastrana announced today a unique tribute that will see the No. 60 Ford Mustang carry the X Games colors at both Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway.

“X Games are the single biggest action sports event in the world,” said Pastrana.  “I've been able to make a career out of having fun and pushing the limits because of the platform provided by this event.  I love everything about it.”

The paint scheme serves as homage to Pastrana’s 17 X Games medals and draws attention to his participation in NASCAR and the X Games in the same weekend.  Immediately following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway, Pastrana will depart for Los Angeles to participate in LA X Games RallyCross.

Pastrana’s X Games accomplishments are legendary, racking up 17 medals, including 11 gold.  He brought home his first gold medal in 1999 as the youngest competitor to win in freestyle motocross.  In 2006 Pastrana put himself in rare company, winning three gold medals in a single X Games, which included the famous feat of landing a double-backflip on a motorcycle, the first person to ever do so.

“NASCAR and the X Games have a lot that cross over, but they are still worlds apart,” said Pastrana.  “So far I've shown the action sports community how difficult NASCAR truly is, but my goal is to show the NASCAR community how talented and determined action sports athletes can be.  There will be a lot of pressure on me from the action sports side when I roll onto the track with this paint scheme, but I usually thrive under pressure.”

The 29-year-old made the switch to full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series competition at the start of the season, teaming up with Roush Fenway Racing in the historic No. 60 Ford Mustang.  Pastrana started the season off at Daytona International Speedway with his first top-10 finish and has since followed that up with a pole and two more top-10s, including a ninth-place finish in Richmond, his career best finish to date.

“This is a huge opportunity for me to be able to bring some eyes from NASCAR over to the X Games and vice versa,” said Pastrana.  “It's never easy to compete and be competitive in more than one discipline, but I've made a career out of doing that.  No matter what, that weekend will be a lot of fun.  I haven't won an event yet this year and it’s a good time to turn the season around.”

Viewers can watch the NASCAR Nationwide Series live on ESPN at Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 4:30 p.m. ET July 27 and on ESPN2 from Iowa Speedway at 8 p.m. ET August 3.  X Games RallyCross airs on ESPN at 5 p.m. ET August 4.
