Indianapolis, Ind. (July 29, 2013) – In his first Sprint Cup start at the historical Indianapolis Motor Speedway, known for the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drove his Ford Ecoboost Fusion to a 25th- place finish in Sunday’s Crown Royal Samuel Deeds 400.
“Track position was crucial today,” Stenhouse said. “It was really hard to pass especially in traffic. We have been unlucky this year as far as pitting under green then the caution comes out a couple of laps later forcing us a lap down. I had higher hopes coming into Indy just because of the rich history of the Brickyard but we will take our 25th- place finish and go on to Pocono next week.”
The two-time Nationwide champion qualified in the 25th- position for his first career Sprint Cup start at the prestigious Indianapolis Motor Speedway and consistently battled in the top-25 for a majority of the 400-mile race. With only three cautions during the 160-lap race, the Olive Branch, Mississippi native was unable to gain ground on the leaders.
On the final pit-stop with less than 15 to go, crew chief Scott Graves called Stenhouse down pit-road for two-tires in hopes to gain some positions in the closing laps. With the field so spread out, the Sprint Cup rookie took the checkered flag in the 25th-position.
Stenhouse and the No. 17 team travel to Pocono Raceway on Aug 4, 2013 for the GoBowling.com 400 400. Race coverage starts at 1:00 pm EST on ESPN.
