Kansas City, Kan. (April 21, 2013) – After a dramatic victory that saw the two-time Nationwide Series Champion come from two laps down to win the Nationwide race last fall, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. qualified third in his No. 17 Zest Ford for Sunday’s STP 400; his best Sprint Cup qualifying effort.
“That was a pretty good lap,” Stenhouse said. “I was hoping for a little bit more there, but the guys did a good job keeping this thing fast from practice. The Zest Ford Fusion looks clean right now and, hopefully, it’ll look clean starting up front. I’m not sure that will hold up. I think Carl and some of the other Ford guys are pretty fast. Hopefully, it holds up because that would be good for us, but, all in all, it’s been a great start to the weekend. We’re just looking to build on that throughout the weekend.”
The No. 17 team had one practice session on Friday afternoon to get the No. 17 Zest Ford Fusion dialed in for qualifying. The two-time NASCAR Nationwide champion picked up where he left off with at Kansas Speedway by posting the second fastest time on the board in Friday’s practice session.
The Olive Branch, Miss. native was the 24th-car to take to the track posting a fast lap time of 28.164 seconds (191.734 mph) on the 1.5-mile oval earning Stenhouse the third starting position for Sunday’s 400 mile race.
All three Roush Fenway Racing Fords carried “B-Strong” decals in support of the city of Boston and all those affected by this week’s tragic events.
The STP 400 at Kansas Speedway will be televised on Sunday, April 21 starting at 1:00 p.m. EST on FOX, with radio coverage presented by the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
