Darlington, SC. (May 12, 2013) – Edwards arrived at Darlington Raceway, better known as the track “Too Tough to Tame”, with a will to win. After 500 miles in the No. 99 Geek Squad Ford, Edwards pushed his way from a 17th-place starting position to a 7th-place finale, another solid top-10 finish and keeping him second in the series points’ standings.
“We struggled a lot tonight and we ended up coming back to seventh, so I’m proud of our effort,” Edwards said. “But it’s like Jimmy and I talked about, we’re just missing something. We have been really good at this size of race track and I thought our Geek Squad Ford was going to be really good. Qualifying was great, other than my mess up, but it was just a struggle all night. That’s a long race when you’re just hanging on to the lead lap and trying to make something happen.”
Edwards came in to pit under green two times before the first caution went out and the No. 99 crew gave him a fresh set of tires and chassis adjustments. The crew assisted with handling issues for most of the night in order to help Edwards muscle through the extremely long green flag runs.
The No. 99 Geek Squad Ford focused on a steady climb through the pack, and after the car began to handle better, Edwards was making his way into the top-10 by lap 254.
“I like the long green flag runs because you really have to dig down deep and focus really hard,” Edwards continued. “It’s kind of fun because you take your mind off everything else and it’s one of the most enjoyable parts of the job are those long green flag runs.”
After pushing his way up to as high as fifth-place, three yellow flags went out in the remaining 57 laps and caused Edwards to loose position on the restarts, sending him to a final seventh place position at the checkered flag.
The 2011 All-Star Race champion will return for the All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 18th at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
