Concord, N.C. (October 17, 2009) – After posting the fifth fastest time in practice and qualifying second for Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Matt Kenseth set his sights on his second win of the year in the No. 16 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion.  Kenseth led 24 laps but was caught up in a big wreck on lap 70 that ended the team’s night early.  Kenseth recorded a 33rd place finish.

The CitiFinancial Ford Fusion was “tight off” in the early laps of the Dollar General 300 and crew chief Eddie Pardue made plans for an air pressure adjustment on the first stop.  The field neared the end of a fuel run and green flag pit stops began on lap 57 with Kenseth running third.  Pardue brought Kenseth in on lap 61 for four tires and the adjustment.  The field hadn’t cycled through yet when the caution came out on the following lap, trapping Kenseth and many other competitors one lap down.  When the running order was sorted out, Kenseth was shown in 19th place.  The CitiFinancial Ford Fusion was marching to the front when a multi-car wreck began on the frontstretch on lap 70.  Kenseth was caught in the middle and suffered extensive damage.  The team was unable to repair the CitiFinancial Ford Fusion.

“That was probably the third hardest hit I’ve ever taken in my career,” said Kenseth.  “It’s so frustrating to be caught up in something like that, especially with a car as good as the CitiFinancial Ford Fusion was all weekend.  We were pretty tight in the early laps but we were working on it.  I think I got hit in the left rear and it spun me around and I backed into Erik Darnell really hard – there was nothing anyone could do.”
