No. 6 CitiFinancial Team PR Blog

Hello – it’s me again – Sean with the No. 6 CitiFinancial team here at Roush Fenway Racing.  The 2010 NASCAR Nationwide season got off to a fast start with three straight races (Daytona to California to Las Vegas) but has since come to a screeching halt.  Now, after two weeks off, it’s time to get rolling again and what better place than at Bristol Motor Speedway or otherwise known as the “Worlds Fastest Half Mile.”

Going to Bristol brings back a ton of memories for me as I lived there for three years while working in TV.  I was a sports anchor/reporter for WCYB which is the NBC affiliate in that market.  I am dating myself here but when I lived and worked in Bristol in the mid-to-late 90’s, Larry Carrier owned the track and it was called Bristol International Raceway or BIR.  Larry then sold the track to Bruton Smith who changed the name to Bristol Motor Speedway and the rest is history.

For those three years, I had the pleasure of covering the races twice a year and believe me, it’s an awesome place to watch a race (just remember to bring your ear plugs).  I remember when former Roush Fenway Racing driver Mark Martin likened racing at Bristol to “jet fighting in a gymnasium.”  Forty-three cars on a half mile track with 36 degree banking - the action is fast.  And when it comes to short track racing, expect short tempers and plenty of fireworks on the track.

I am really looking forward to this weekend and working with rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr.  He’s never raced on the concrete high banks of Bristol before but he did test an ARCA car there in ’08.  Now while I won’t be able to help him go fast on the track, I do have some short cuts and back roads in and out of the place to help speed up our commute on race day.  Hey, we’re always racing someone.

So after not racing for the last two weekends, it’s time to pick up the pace – at least for now – as we have another off week after Bristol.

Please keep checking back for updates from me and the rest of my colleagues.  I encourage you follow me and the No. 6 CitiFinancial team on twitter @PR6CitiFi all weekend long and during the race.  Also, follow driver Ricky Stenhouse on twitter @stenhousejr.

Talk to you later.

Sean
