No Lady Luck for Roush Fenway after Rain Threatens Nationwide Race

Las Vegas, Nev. (February 27, 2010) – Rain threatened Saturday’s Nationwide race but after a late start and eight cautions, NASCAR was able to complete all 200 laps.  Carl Edwards contended for the lead throughout the day and led for a good portion of the race after the half-way point.  A caution at lap 144 brought several cars down pit road for pit stops, including the No. 60, as teams gambled on the approaching rain.  Edwards returned in third and challenged Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin for the lead but couldn’t quite get around the duo settling for third.  Harvick and Hamlin went on to finish first and second respectively.

“Good effort guys,” said Edwards on the radio following the race.  “We needed just a little more grip at the end but good job overall.  Great job on pit road.”

Paul Menard had a solid day and came back from an early speeding penalty on pit road to finish eighth while both Roush Fenway rookies started strong but ended the day on a sour note.  Ricky Stenhouse Jr. qualified seventh and had a solid run in the top-15 for the first half of the race before sliding up the track and hitting the wall in turn four on lap 117.  After major repairs, Stenhouse returned to the track just before his teammate Colin Braun was hit from behind by the No. 66 on a restart sending him careening into the wall and ending his day early.  Prior to his incident on lap 170, Braun had steadily worked his way into the top 10 where he ran for a good portion of the race.  Braun finished 28th while Stenhouse finished 30th.

The Nationwide Series will take the next two weeks off and return to action at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 20.  Watch all the action live on ESPN2.
