Notes From the Road: No.16 3M Crew Blog

Vegas And Atlanta Review:

Las Vegas didn't give the 16 3M Team the result we thought we deserved but another top 10. We'll take it and move on to Atlanta, a place that was not kind to us at all last year in the spring race.

Looking Back:
Last year for the spring race in Atlanta we were very optimistic about how well our team would do. The 16 3M Team participated in the tire test in late December of 2008. When we showed up for the spring race in 2009 it was a totally different place. It was 30 degrees warmer than when we tested and our car just wouldn't hook up to the track at all. We had a better plan in the fall but still not what we wanted for a Labor Day race in the South.

Present Day:
After Greg Erwin and the Boys prepared a great car for this years Atlanta race on Saturday early in practice "The Biff" had an argument with the high line around Atlanta and well, he lost. Sometimes when you look for the ragged edge you step over it and the concrete wall was to much for Chassis # 546. As I write this the guys in the shop are cutting it apart and throwing it in the dumpster for recycling. Darn shame too because that is the car we used to run on the concrete race tracks and had never finished outside the top 3 at any race we ran it at. It's last win was the Dover fall race in 2008. We held a moment of silence for it after our meeting this morning. (Kyle Power, Rear Tire Changer, Officiated)

We had to start the race 43rd because of using a different car than what we qualified but when the green flag dropped the 16 car was on path to the front. With a couple of fast pit stops when the cautions came out the Pit Bulls and "The Biff" were on  a mission. We fought our way to the top 10 and stayed there all day. After finishing 8th we left Atlanta 3rd in the points standings and with a week off the guys will have time to get a new car ready for Bristol, a place we love as a team.

It will take another great effort by the 16 3M Team as a whole to kick some but up in the mountains of Tennessee. Bristol is a tough but very fun place to race. It's fast, furious and just plain crazy!

Watch for the 3M U.S. 2010 Census Ford Fusion to be somewhere up front on race day! You can also follow us on Twitter @ 163MTeam. Amber does a great job of filling all the folks in on what we are doing during the race. Make sure you check us out!
