Bayne Battles to 15th-Place Finish in Kentucky

Sparta, Ky. (September 22, 2013) – Trevor Bayne and the No. 6 Ford EcoBoost team finished 15th in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) night race at Kentucky Speedway.  The team chased track conditions and fought for overall grip for most of the night, finishing in the 15th position.

The NNS visited Kentucky Speedway for the second time of the season for another race under the lights.  Rain midway through Friday’s first practice session ended practice early and cancelled the second session of the day.

Under clear skies, Bayne started from the 22nd starting position Saturday afternoon.  Shortly after the green flag flew, Bayne found himself moving up through the field and by the fifth lap he had gained eight positions.

Bayne pitted on lap 25 under a competition caution, Kelley called for adjustments to help the loose condition of the No. 6 Ford Mustang.  Bayne reported in earlier that he felt the car was too loose through the middle and needed to be tightened up.

Shortly after pitting, Bayne radioed in that he felt like the splitter was hitting the track causing the car to bounce off violently.  Kelley waited un lap 60 to make the adjustments under caution.  The team went to work quickly on the No.6 Ford Mustang.  Raising the hood to make a shock adjustment as well as four tires, a wedge adjustment and two cans of fuel.  The extended stop dropped the team from 14th back down to 25th.

Six laps later on Lap 36, contact from the No. 3 of Austin Dillon sent Pastrana for a spin.  The No. 60 came down pit road early, to avoid damage from flat tires.  The team bolted on four fresh Goodyear tires and added fuel.  Pastrana visited pit road again under this caution for a track bar adjustment to help the chassis.

The adjustment had little effect on the ill-handling Mustang.  Bayne reported to Kelley the car was still bouncing bad through the bumps which was making it hard to quickly get back to power.

A green flag stop was in order on lap 159, Kelley opted for two tires and 1 can of fuel.  No adjustments on the car.  The team lost several more spots and blended in to the green flag field in the 20th position.

Bayne battled the car and the field to ultimately cross the line in the 15th position.
