Biffle Takes Top-10 Finish in Bristol

Bristol, TENN. (August 25th, 2013) – Under the lights of Bristol Motor Speedway, Greg Biffle and his 3M team turned a 29th-place starting position into a top-10 finish.  It sounds magical but it required perseverance, evasive driving and hard work to get the 3M/Bondo Ford up to the ninth position before the checkered flag flew.  The top-10 in Bristol moves Biffle up one position in the point standings to ninth and gives him a more comfortable cushion of 17 points on Brad Keselowski in 11th.

Early in the race, Biffle reported that the 3M/Bondo Ford was too tight and just wouldn’t turn. This continued to be the case throughout the early part of the race despite several trips to pit road for adjustments.  Biffle and crew chief Matt Puccia also opted to stay out and not pit during about every other caution in order to gain track position.

The strategy began to pay off near the end of the race and with the help of spotter Joel Edmonds, Biffle also capitalized on the bad luck of others by avoiding several late-race incidents.  He was running in the top 15 with around 50 laps to go and was able to drive to a ninth-place finish in the closing laps.

“To be honest with you, we weren’t all that great right off the truck,” said Biffle. “We were a little bit tight and I had to drive the heck out of it and run it right on the edge to get any speed out of it.  Things worked out for a top-10 and some of the guys we were racing had trouble too, so it ended up being a good points night for us. You come to Bristol with a goal to win the night race but we’ll take a top 10 and get ready for Atlanta.”

Matt Kenseth took the win and Kasey Kahne finished second followed by Juan Pablo Montoya, Brian Vickers and Joey Logano.  The Sprint Cup Series heads to Atlana next weekend for a rare Sunday night showdown at the 1.5-mile oval.
