Martinsville, Va. (April 7, 2013) – After suffering a flat rear tire, Carl Edwards maneuvered his Fastenal Ford up through the field to claim a 15th-place finish in Sunday’s STP Gas Booster 500 at Martinsville Speedway; currently sits seventh in the Sprint Cup standings heading into next weekend’s NRA 500.
Edwards, who historically has struggled on the circuit’s shortest track, felt confident going into today’s 500-mile race after his Fastenal Ford was third fastest overall in the final practice. The Missouri native took the green flag in the ninth position but was shuffled back to the 14th-position where he remained until the caution was displayed. Edwards reported that he had no real grip until the wall upon exit and that the car generally felt extremely tight throughout the race’s entirety.
On lap 253, the No. 99 Fastenal Ford brought out the caution after a flat rear tire caused Edwards to spin. With no damage to his Ford, Edwards brought his machine to pit-road for four fresh tires and fuel. After restarting 21st, Edwards bullied his way back up to the 13th-position before the cautions in the final laps left him taking the checkered flag in the 15th-position.
Edwards and the No. 99 Fastenal Ford will return to the track Saturday, April 13th at Texas Motor Speedway. Race coverage begins at 7:00p.m. EST on FOX. Coverage can also be heard on PRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
