Excitement All-Around as Speedweeks Rolls into Daytona Beach

In most sports it would be unheard of to field your biggest event of the season, as the first event of the season. However, here in NASCAR it’s hard to argue that any event generates more pure excitement, raw emotion, and enthusiasm than the two-week build up of Daytona Speedweeks; which culminates with the running of the famed Daytona 500 next Sunday.

The cars will take the track today for the first time of the new season in practice for this year’s Sprint Unlimited Shootout race. The remainder of the Sprint Cup field will get in on the action tomorrow, as preparations begin for the 500.

With that, you already see the campers rolling in; each campsite hoisting banners representing their favorite driver in what will become a sea of fan affiliation that carries throughout the center of the massive 2.5-mile race track known  as Daytona International Speedway.

As we head into next week, the streets will become a little more crowded and the eating establishments a little more difficult to get into. The intensity will rise as we maneuver through some of the most exciting racing of the season with the qualifying races, Nationwide race and then the Daytona 500.

Here at Roush Fenway we have been fortunate enough to experience our fair share of success during Speedweeks over the past few seasons. Last season RFR cars occupied both spots on the front row after qualifying and drove into victory lane for its first ever duel race win and then the 500. In fact, an RFR driver has won the Daytona 500 in three of the past four seasons (granted that is counting Trevor’s win in the No. 21; scored as  a Wood Brothers win, but Trevor is still in the family).

Hopefully it’s a streak we can keep alive, as we look to put a Ford Fusion in victory lane at the Daytona 500 for the fourth time in the last five years. Whether that happens or not, one thing will be certain; it’s going to be an exciting ride getting there. So buckle up and enjoy. This is Daytona Speedweeks and racing is upon us.
