RFR’s Bayne and Pastrana Finish 9th and 13th in NNS at California

Fontana, Calif. (March 23, 2013) – Roush Fenway’s Trevor Bayne and Travis Pastrana finished ninth and 13th respectively in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Auto Club Speedway (California). Bayne moved up one position to sixth in the NNS point standings, with his third top-10 finish in five starts.

Bayne ran as well as fifth late in the race, before his No. 6 Cargill Beef Mustang ‘loosened’ up on the final run.

“We got it way too free there at the end,” said Bayne. “We were fine for a little while and drove up to fifth but we put fuel in and loosened it up. It took us so long to get that fuel burn off to get it back going again. It is frustrating when you have a car you can run top five with and you give it up from ill handling. The right rear is probably worn out on this thing from letting the wall hold me in the race track.”

For Pastrana it was his fourth finish of 16th or better in his first full-time season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

“I was trying to follow Trevor’s lead right there,” said Pastrana. “That was wild actually. I have never really slid that close to the wall on the outside and when you get close to it it kind of sucks you in a little bit. It also gives you something to lean on. We used the wall probably about 50 or 60 feet but it doesn’t look that bad right there. I think that is some good old American engineering right there.”

The NNS returns to action in three weeks (April 12) at Texas Motor Speedway. Roush Fenway will field three cars in the race, with rookie Chris Buescher once again joining Bayne and Pastrana.

RFR has won eight times in Nationwide Series action at Texas.
