Ryan Reed Gains Valuable Experience in Bristol Debut

‘Reed Posts 26th-place Finish in the No. 16 Drive to Stop DiabetesSM Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang’

Ryan Reed, piloting the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes SM Roush Fenway Racing Ford Mustang, posted a 26th-place finish in the Food City 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race Friday night.

“We came here to do what we expected – to learn,” said Reed.  “I really had hoped to have a better finish for these guys on this Roush Fenway team – they brought me a great car tonight and I’m disappointed that I couldn’t give them a top finish. I learned so much from the start to the end and I have to thank the American Diabetes Association and Roush Fenway Racing for the opportunity. We’ll take what we learned and head to Richmond in a couple weeks.”

The young driver - in his second start with Roush Fenway Racing - placed his Ford Mustang in the 27th-place position on the starting grid for the 250 lap race on the .533-mile short track in Bristol, Tennessee.

From the beginning of the event the race had long green flag runs with the first caution coming on lap 64.  Reed pitted after feeling he was losing rear grip for four tires and fuel and a track bar adjustment.

The caution returned on lap 107, where Reed brought the car for service from the Roush Fenway Racing crew for fuel in tires, gaining experience on pit road and on the historic Bristol Motor Speedway.

On lap 167, the track was three-wide when another competitor slowed in the middle, Reed made a quick aversion to avoid the slow car flat spotting his tires, causing minimal damage.  Reed brought the No. 16 Drive to Stop DiabetesSM Ford down pit road for the final time for four fresh Goodyear tires.

After the restart on lap 178 Reed maintained solid lap times learning the track that has been difficult for the most experienced drivers.  Reed completed the Kroger 250 posting a 26th-place finish for the Roush Fenway Racing team in the No. 16 Drive to Stop DiabetesSM Ford Mustang.

Reed is slated to drive the No. 16 Drive to Stop DiabetesSM Roush Fenway Racing Ford at Richmond International Raceway September 6, 2013.
