Stenhouse Starts 12th in His First Sprint Cup Start at Phoenix

Avondale Ariz. (March 2, 2013) - In his first career Sprint Cup start at Phoenix International Raceway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will start Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 in the 12th-position; leading the Roush Fenway qualifying efforts.

“The first lap was a little tight for us,” Stenhouse said, “I definitely had really good grip on the second lap. It turned a lot better than I expected on the second lap causing me to drive across the apron in turns three and four, so we definitely left some speed out there. I’m happy with what our No. 17 team did as far as getting the car ready from practice to qualifying. At Phoenix, you want to start up front so 12th-place is great and hopefully we can get a solid finish in our Best Buy Ford.

The No. 17 team had one practice session on Friday afternoon to get the No. 17 Best Buy Ford Fusion dialed in for qualifying. The two-time reigning NASCAR Nationwide Champion finished the first practice session in the 15th- position.

The Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year contender was the 24th car to take to the track for his qualifying effort.  The No. 17 Best Buy Ford Fusion posted a fast lap time of 26.329 seconds (136.731 mph) earning Stenhouse the 12th- starting position for Sunday’s 312-lap race.

The Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway will be televised on Sunday, March 3rd starting at 2:30 p.m. EST on FOX, with radio coverage presented by the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
