Daytona Beach, Fla.(Feb. 25, 2013) – After damaging the nose of his Best Buy Ford in a multi-car accident on lap 137, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. gained three positions in the final six laps to claim a solid 12th-place finish in the 55th Annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
“I’m definitely happy after getting in a wreck and being able to bounce back from all that,” Stenhouse said. “The guys did a great job getting our Best Buy Ford back together, but we were a lot faster than that. We’ve just got to work on everything, but taking a 12th- place finish out of Daytona is better than a 30th or 20th. I’m really excited about Phoenix and Las Vegas coming up. I think those will be good tracks for us.”
The Olive Branch, Miss. native started his second career Daytona 500 in the 28th position and quickly bullied his way up through the field. The No. 17 Best Buy Ford was positioned in 13th- place when the 200-lap race reached half-way.
On lap 137, several cars tangled in front of the Sprint Cup rookie causing front end damage on the Best Buy Ford. After five pit-stops under the yellow, the mangled No. 17 Ford restarted in the 24thposition still on the lead lap.
In the closing laps, the field was dicey after running single file for a majority of the 200-lap race. Stenhouse maneuvered his way through the pack and took the checkered flag in the 12th position.
Stenhouse and the No. 17 Best Buy team travel to Phoenix next weekend for the Subway Fresh Fit 500. The race will be Sunday, March 3 at Phoenix International Raceway. Coverage will begin at 2:30 p.m. (EST) on FOX.
