Unlucky Caution Causes Stenhouse to Finish 16th at Michigan

Brooklyn, Mich. (June 17, 2013) - In the backyard of Ford Motor Company and Roush Industries, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. bullied his way through the field after a late race caution shuffled him back to the 27th position. The two-time Nationwide champion charged through the field gaining 11 spots in the final 30 laps of Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

“We just can’t catch a break,” Stenhouse said. “Our Zest Ford was running in the top-10 but we had to pit a few laps early because of some debris on the grill and unfortunately the caution came out three laps later causing us to be one lap down. We took the wave around to get back on the lead lap but just ran out of time to get back up inside the top-10. Our Ford was fast so we are definitely making some improvements. It was great to see Greg (Biffle) get Ford’s 1000th NASCAR win.”

The Olive Branch, Miss. native qualified 15th for his first career Sprint Cup start at MIS and was steadily running in the top 15 for a majority of the 400-mile race. As green flag pit stops were cycling through, the Olive Branch, Miss. native brought his Zest Ford to pit road for two tires and to clean the grille of debris which was causing the machine to overheat. Before the pit-stops cycled through, the caution was displayed three laps later when the No. 1 machine blew a tire bringing out the final caution of the 200-lap race.

On the final restart, Stenhouse lined up in the 27th position and quickly maneuvered his Ford through the pack but ran out of time taking the checkered flag in the 16th-positon; moving up two spots in the point standings to 18th tied with Ryan Newman.

Next up for Stenhouse and the No. 17 team is the first road course race of the season. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway is on Sunday, June 24. Race coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on TNT. Coverage can also be heard on PRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
