Ragan Qualifies 17th in Front of Hometown Crowd in Atlanta

Hampton, Ga. (March 5, 2010) – David Ragan turned a fast lap of 29.091 seconds (190.574 mph) around the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday evening to earn a 17th-place starting position for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. claimed the pole position.  Ragan hails from Unadilla, Ga., just a short distance from Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Also just a short distance away is the headquarters for his sponsor UPS.  With lots of people around for support Ragan and crew have extra incentive for a good run on Sunday.  There are two practice sessions scheduled tomorrow and will allow the team to tune in the UPS Ford for Sunday’s 325-lap race.

“I think we’ve got something to work with,” said Ragan.  “It obviously didn’t look like it was going to be that good of a lap, but it was a decent pickup.  We picked up four-tenths from practice, but it just wasn’t quite enough.  I think we’ve got a good race car for Sunday.”

Practice for the Kobalt Tools 500 will be televised by SPEED and will take place from 11:00am – 11:45am ET on Saturday, March 6th with final practice from 12:20pm-1:20pm.  The Kobalt Tools 500 will be televised on FOX Sunday, March 7th beginning at 1:00pm ET.
