Concord, N.C. (October 17, 2009) – Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. headed to Lowe’s Motor Speedway this weekend for his seventh and final NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the 2009 season. The No. 17 Save-A-Lot team had hopes of a solid finish in Friday night’s race after Stenhouse, Jr. posted the seventh-fastest lap time in practice and qualified seventh. Stenhouse, Jr. fought a tight car in the early laps, but was running solidly in the top 15 when he made contact with Reed Sorenson and Jason Keller on lap 12. The Save-A-Lot Ford Fusion suffered serious damage and the team was unable to return to the race. Stenhouse, Jr. recorded a 40th place finish.
“I’m really disappointed,” said Stenhouse, Jr. “The Save-A-Lot Ford Fusion was really tight but I was hanging in there just logging laps until we could work on it. The 10 got off the gas in front of me and I checked up and the 27 got us from behind. There wasn’t anywhere I could go. I hate it for these guys who’ve worked so hard on this car – it’s definitely not how I wanted to end the season. I just have to thank Save-A-Lot and Ford for their support all year. They deserved a better run than this, that’s for sure.”
