What's up Roush Fenway Racing fans?

First off, a hearty congratulations to Jack Roush and all of Roush Fenway Racing on their 100th win in the Nationwide series last weekend at Phoenix, with Greg Biffle taking the victory!  What an amazing accomplishment!  I'm sure all of the RFR fans are so proud of you!  Now, on to business.  I hope everyone is doing well and getting geared up for Talladega this weekend.  I know I am, and so are my students.  We have been talking about streamlining in Science class, and I always like to use the example of how NASCAR teams try to make their cars as streamlined as possible to help reduce air resistance and drag on their cars, and what better place to demonstrate the importance of that concept than at Talladega Superspeedway, the largest oval shaped track on the NASCAR circuit.  Drafting is always important at the big tracks, especially the restrictor plate tracks of Daytona and Talladega.  These tracks usually make for a good show for the fans, but give the drivers what I call a lot of "white knuckle syndrome" while racing side by side the entire race.  I can only imagine how tough it must be for the drivers as they race around the 2.66 mile facility wondering when the "Big One" will occur.  I guess that's why they are the best in the world, especially our RFR drivers!  Let's all hope that when and if it does happen, Jamie, David, Carl, Matt, and Greg are not around to be collected in someone else's mess.  A good day in the points is what our heroes need right now, and maybe we'll be lucky enough to win the race on Sunday, and break out of what I am calling a mini-drought, as we haven't had a Cup victory since Matt won the first two races of the season.  I believe the drivers at Roush Fenway Racing are poised and ready to do just that!  The drivers and teams have been working so hard, but the competition is tough at this level and wins can be hard to come by.  So we'll take them when we can get them, and this weekend is a prime time to do so.  Anything can happen at Talladega, so I'm not predicting one particular driver to win this weekend, rather a few of my students, Katie, Joey, Bryce, Nicole, Steven, Kyle, Joe, Ryan, Suzannah, and yours truly, are pulling for any one of them to make it to victory lane on Sunday, as shown in the picture by our support for our favorite drivers and some of their awesome sponsors.  I'm sure we'd all love to see that happen!  Best of luck to all of the RFR teams, including Colin Braun, who is racing at Kansas in the Camping World Truck series this weekend.  Go get em' guys!

Go fast, turn left!

Your 2008 Fan of the Year,

Jon
