Tire, Electrical Problems Derail Promising Weekend for Aflac Team

Concord, N.C. (October 11, 2008) – After posting some of the fastest times in practice, Carl Edwards and the No. 99 Aflac team believed that they would contend for the win in Saturday night’s race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Things got off to a strong start, but seemingly their fortunes quickly turned as the No. 99 Ford Fusion first experienced tire troubles, then ignition problems that would leave them several laps down and out of contention for a seventh win of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Edwards Plays Talladega Shuffle and Gets Caught in the "Big One"

TALLADEGA, AL (October 5, 2008) – Talladega Superspeedway is famous for high speeds, close competition and the “Big One”. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series made its second appearance of the 2008 season at the 2.66-mile Alabama track this weekend. Edwards shuffled back on lap 38 for a conservative strategy to ride in the back until lap 168 when he started pressing toward the front drafting with teammate Greg Biffle. Then, on lap 174, Edwards and the No. 99 Office Depot Ford got caught up in the “Big One” and finished 29th.

Edwards Comes Up Just Short in Quest for Home-Track Win

The driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford grew up just 130 miles away, and considers this to be his home race. Despite running well at the 1.5-mile speedway in the past, Edwards had not had the results he’d wanted to show. That changed on Sunday afternoon when Edwards fought a hard battle with Jimmie Johnson, coming up just short of scoring the victory.

(September 27, 2008) – Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Scotts Winterguard team worked on several different setups during both practices trying to figure out the right one for this 1.5-mile oval. This was Edwards’ fourth NASCAR Nationwide Series start at Kansas Speedway in front of family and friends. He grew up just miles from the track and had raced in his younger years just minutes from the speedway. By finishing 4th, he claimed his 14th top-5.

Edwards Finishes Third at Dover, Maintains Point Lead

(September 21, 2008) – Sunday afternoon’s 400-mile race at Dover was one of ups and downs for Carl Edwards, but the driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion ended the day on a high note, waging a 30-lap battle with Roush Fenway Racing teammates Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth for the win. While Edwards would come up short in his quest for the checkered flag, he left Dover with his lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Standings intact.

Nationwide: Edwards Fights Hard for 13th Top-5 at “The Monster Mile”

DOVER, Del. (September 20, 2008) – The Monster Mile provided an afternoon of challenges for Edwards and the No. 60 World Financial Group team. They fought hard to spend most of the race in the top-10 on the one-mile oval, but encountered some problems on pit road when the No. 99 pulled out in front of Edwards causing him to wreck into the points leader Clint Bowyer. Edwards recovered and pulled off a 5th place finish for his 13th top-5 of the season and gained 21 points on Bowyer to help close the lead.
